Mortality Motivation: How Facing Death Could Be a Reminder To Live Fully

One of my mentors talks about mortality motivation. He says that when we face death with our eyes, we give a different meaning to life.

Recently, I had a few situations where death was more present than usual in my life, and it made me think about it.

I know that every goodbye carries, if we have eyes to see, an invitation to reflection, so here is mine:

  • Life is a breath

It was a Tuesday like any other. I prepared myself for a recurring meeting, and when it started, we received the news that a client had passed away.

I froze. I was surprised. I was in shock.

I was with this person a month ago on an in-person visit. I knew exactly all that we had to accomplish until the end of the year. I had a plan to help him achieve it, and we were on track for an outstanding, successful year.

And suddenly, none of that mattered anymore. I could only think about his family, his employees, and the people who were close to him. If I was in shock, imagine them.

Many questions came to my mind: Should I call my mom and say I love her? Am I doing enough? Am I prioritizing the proper things? Am I living according to my values?

Many thoughts came to my mind: Life is a gift, life is a breath, life is a ride, life is precious.

Whatever you choose to believe, please don’t take life for granted. We never know when our last breath will be.

Until then, I invite you to embrace life fully, appreciating all its nuances and having eyes to see all the invitations to reflection.

Happy journey!
